HP has informed Bach that in June, there will be a special limited edition run of the HP-15C. If you’re not familiar with the HP-15C, this reiusse is a really big deal. From 1982-1989, Hewlett Packard made the HP-15C. It’s popularity has actually increased since it was discontinued. In fact, it’s been so popular that used 15C’s sell for hundreds of dollars and thousands of individuals have signed online petitions asking for its re-release. "

Apple’s Designers Work Towards Storefront Symmetry: "There is seemingly no limit to the manipulations that Apple store designers will make to ensure that the various elements of construction are aligned and pleasing to the eye. What looks like a simple retail storefront is actually a carefully designed, measured and constructed assemblage of glass, cement, metal and stone whose edges correspond. One of the best examples of Apple’s design craftiness is the just-opened 4th Street (N. Calif.) store, where the new sidewalk, store window panels and inside stone floor tiles all are dimensioned and positioned to present a symmetrical appearance. In this case, the master element is the stone floor tiles, which are 76 centimeters square (about 30 inches). The glass window panes are then manufactured to a multiple of that dimension. Outside, Apple routinely installs a new sidewalk in front of its street-facing stores. In this case, the sidewalk was made with contraction lines that are also multiple of the stone tile dimension. When all the painstaking design and construction work is finished, passersby and store visitors “see” the effect, but probably don’t realize why the store is so attractive.

This DJ popularity contest quickly became the decisive litmus test for dance music, despite its many flaws. The voting for this year’s Top 100 DJs Poll closes at midnight GMT tonight.

The University of Iowa Musical Instrument Samples were created by Lawrence Fritts, Director of the Electronic Music Studios and Associate Professor of Composition at the University of Iowa in 1997.
The instruments were recorded in the Anechoic Chamber in the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center at The University of Iowa on the following equipment:
• Neumann KM 84 Cardioid Condensor Microphone
• Mackie 1402-VLZ Mixer
• Panasonic SV-3800 DAT Recorder
The recordings were digitally transferred to Macintosh Power PC 8500 though a Digidesign Audiomedia III interface (1997-1999) or to a Macintosh G4 through a Digidesign Digi-001 digital interface (2000-present)."

Lesson Learned « welp's blog: "Uhoh. After working on large projects for three and a half years, I had completely missed a major point: the inherent transitionary nature of large projects means that it is necessary for one programmer to work with another programmer’s code in order to be paid. I didn’t realize how wrong this was though. I forgot an else statement when refactoring my colleague’s code; she had to stay up until 5am debugging it. She no longer understood what was originally hers. I am now convinced that nothing is more demotivating than working with code you don’t understand, especially when it was your own. It can’t get much worse for me though, right?
